The other night, I went to a restaurant that played a silent film projection for its customers on the front wall ("The Cameraman" with Buster Keaton). The whole time I was salivating over not only my delicious meal, but also every dress and every hat worn by the lead actress, Marceline Day.
Here's a clip from the middle of the film. As they're walking, you can see some of Marceline's dress under her coat (though the youtube resolution does none of this justice) - a drop-waisted plaid frock, one that reminded me of this dress I stumbled across a couple weeks ago:

60s Plaid Bow Twiggy Dress - putonthatdress on Etsy
"Now in technicolor!"
The name says 60s, but the cut is just a little bit 20s, too...

Dawn Landes - Picture Show
Digging, digging in the ground
Looking for a thing to love
Lonely ones are
never found,
but they can tell you things
about the soil;
they fill
your heart
with oil.
