Joe Iconis - Penny Dreadfuls
(Performed by Joe, Jason SweetTooth Wiliams, and Lance Rubin)

Oh hot damn, this is my jam. I typed out the lyrics cos I want to learn them:

before i met you
kittens were singin' in the trees
mermaids were ticklin' my knees
& life was a lovely lark

before i met you
angels would feed me cherry pies
until you opened up my eyes
to things most dark

now when i try to sleep at night
i think of
penny dreadfuls
and
many headfuls
of nasty evil things

and i clutch my pillow tight
but a power
beyond my bed pulls me
to places where i ruminate
on nasty evil things

and i try and try to clear my mind
but i find my mind's been intertwined
with gory thoughts and there's nothin
i can dooo
oooo

when i try to sleep at night
i think of
penny dreadfuls
and its all
because of you

before i met you
i never dropped or popped no pills
i wasn't all hopped up on no chills
and life was stars and dreams
sometimes id like to
go back to the way things used to be
but then you took a holda me
and i need to smell those scars and hear those screams

now when i try to sleep at night
i think of
penny dreadfuls
and
many heafuls
of nasty evil things

and i clutch my pillow tight
but a power
beyond my bed pulls me
to places where i ruminate
on nasty evil things

and i try and try to clear my mind
but i find my mind's been intertwined
with gory thoughts and aint nothin
i can dooo
oooo

when i try to sleep at night
i think of
penny dreadfuls
and its all
because of you

and oo oo oo
i didnt know what i was missin
and oo ooo oo
that wasn't nothing i was (missin? again?)

now when i try to sleep at night
i think of
penny dreadfuls
and
many headfulls
of nasty evil things

and i clutch my pillow tight
but a power
beyond my bed pulls me
to places where i ruminate
on nasty evil things

and i try and try to clear my mind
but i find my mind's been intertwined
with gory thoughts and there's nothin
i can dooo
oooo

when i try to sleep at night
i think of
penny dreadfuls
and its all
because of

when i try to sleep at night
i think of

Joe Iconis - I Was Born This Morning (The Cicada Song)

Love this song. It's from Joe's show "THINGS TO RUIN," and makes for a pretty goddamn rousing opening number. This performance was at Joe's Pub (named for a different Joe altogether) back in 2007.

Here's another video of it done a year later at The Zipper Factory, so you can see what it looks like as part of the actual show T2R, with its current usual cast. (No fancy zoomy schwasty camera effects on this one, though):

Oh, heave ho

Okay, I've been bad about keeping the blogger NV up to date with the livejournal NV (yes, it's on LJ now too!), but now we're caught up with crossposting! Hooray! Haha it's not like anyone still follows it on here, but whatever. Here's today's entry:

I was out of town sans laptop this weekend, so to make up for skipping posts the past three days, here is an extravaganza!

The Louise Brooks Dress

The Louise Brooks Dress - Thrush on Etsy

Just a nice, simple white dress at first glance, but could be a valuable fashion staple for summer. I think it'd be versatile for lots of different styles depending on how you accessorize it, but would lend itself especially well to being the base for a nautical look. (And note the awesome huge pockets!! Perfect for a stroll on the beach.)

Here are some accessories for the seaside theme! All found on Etsy.

^ I think these four together would make for a pretty snappy ensemble with the dress, plus maybe a chunky bracelet or ring for jewelry...

And the song to wrap it all up:

The Joe Iconis Rock & Roll Jamboree - Last on Land
(Written by Joe Iconis, performed by Jason SweetTooth Williams & company;
Spring Awakening fans reading may notice Krysta Rodriguez in there, starting around 4:00.)

I was at this Jamboree and this song was a definite highlight! :) An exciting early peek at a new Iconis musical in the works, Spaghetti Western.

THINGS TO RUIN - The War Song

(Written by Joe Iconis, performed by Lance Rubin)

Had two other songs come to mind for this one, but I think I'll save them for other military jacket posts in the future. Because there will be others. I'm a sucker for the Sgt. Pepper look.
